? According to the Curriculum Guidelines of the 12-Year Basic Education, the essential learning focuses on characters and words in the fifth learning stage are those of the Six Formation Principles and in Classical Chinese. Meanwhile, the learning content as well as student performance on reading and writing describe that students are required to learn the features of different expression in texts. This study collects and analyzes characters and words frequently used in the fifth leaning stage in Chinese Language Textbooks on the basis of the Curriculum Guidelines of the 12-Year Basic Education and Grade 1-9 Curriculum, then discuss cross-version, cross-curriculum and cross-stage gaps, and finally proposes the application of characters and words in different genre and expression. Through the analysis and comparison of characters and words between Chinese Language Textbooks and news media, we can get the picture of the gap between Textbooks and daily life usage.
