The main purpose of this integrative project is to explore approaches for the curriculum development of the emerging and important issues in elementary and junior high school. In order to achieve the main purpose, this integrative project inquires the implementation of important and emerging issues of Grade 1-9 curriculum, analyzes the relationship of contents among learning fi led, important issues, and emerging issues, and the methods of implementing emerging and important issue curricula in schools.
Based on the research findings, this project proposes an approach for the curriculum development of the emerging and important issues. This approach consists of three parts. The fi rst part is to implement issue curricula through an integrated direction. The core of this integrated direction is to make the issues’ competence indices that similar to the indices of learning fi leds merge into learning fi leds’. The second part is to set up a rational procedure to developing issue curricula. The core of this rational procedure is “analysing the competence indices of important and emerging issues →analysing the correlation between issue curricula and learning fi led →selecting an implement model”. The third part is to construct mechanisms of support and evaluation. Ministry of Education, Bureaus of Education, textbook publishing companies and teacher education institutions should provide support to assist the implementation of issue curricula.?
