The Australian Vocational and Educational Training (VET) system is an internationally recognized successful vocational education mode. The development of VET system in Australia has lasted for more than a century. The Australian VET system has gradually formed a standardized system with its own characteristics after absorbing successful experience of vocational education in other countries and combining its own national situation. The VET system has grown to be the pillar of the economical and social development in Australia. The purpose of this study is to provide Chinese vocational education and training with valuable experience and suggestions through a comprehensive analysis and research on the development of Australian VET system and its important characteristics and advantages.
This thesis consists of four parts. The summaries of them are as fo11ows: Part 1 is an introduction in which the issue is introduced and the objectives, methodology and implications of the study are dealt with. Part 2 introduces the Australian educational system briefly. And then reviews the development process of Australian VET system through the historical background. It also introduces the role and functions of the VET sector in the whole Australian education system. Part 3 mainly examines the development of Australian VET system and the main characteristics of VET. And it explores the three key units in the Australian VET system: Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF), Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and Training Package (TP). Part 4 explores the applicability of Australian VET expertise for Taiwan, and summarizes the implications of its successful Experience for Taiwanese vocational education and training reform and development.
