This study is the subproject of “Examine the interpretation and implement of key competence from textbooks” integrated project. It examines the implement of key competence and the interpretation as well as practice of textbook design from the viewpoint of textbook editors and reviewers. Mainly selecting five fields of junior high school basic subjects Chinese, English, math, social studies, natural sciences as subjects, it adopts in-depth interview, focus group, and survey techniques. It takes 2 years and 5 months to conduct two stages of research. The first stage aims at developing the junior high school basic subjects competence-oriented textbook design instruction. The second stage is about realizing textbook editors and reviewers’ understanding and achievement of competence-oriented textbook design, analyzing their expectation on the interpretation and implement of textbook design, and proposing viable coping strategies. The author expect to proposes policy suggestions on current Curriculum Guidelines of 12-year Basic Education’s textbook edit and review and the drafting of the new Guidelines.
